Noticing the Shining At Water’s Edge

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Let us stop and notice the shining as we recognize ourselves in unison with God’s grandeur revealed in the force of life-giving water. Join teacher, coach, and water lover George A. Moger, and poet, photographer, and nature lover Diane Torello Moger for an experiential time on Lake Huron.  This three hour event will begin in the serenity of collective stillness at lake’s edge and be followed by an hour-long silent walking meditation on the shore of Lakeport State Park.  To close we will gather around a campfire for short readings and the sharing of reflections and revelations experienced in newly charted lakeside territories. Please dress for rain, snow or sunshine. This is Michigan where revelation takes place in all the glorious weather this great mitten has to offer!

Icons: Vehicles for the Presence of The Holy

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Icons have been referred to as “sacred doorways” or “sacred windows.” Studying the process of writing and reading Icons continues to be a spiritual journey for Mary Ann Stirling-Doherty. She looks forward to telling her Icon journey-story and to sharing what she has learned about these sacred images. Hopefully, everyone will leave with an ability to read icons in a new way. Mary is a part-time therapist at NorServ Group, Ltd., St. Clair.  She has been studying Icons in Monroe with Sr. Nancy Lee Smith of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters. Mary also attended two extended workshops on Icon Writing with Donna Raethert of Three Rivers, Michigan.

Enflamed With Life

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

You are spark of the stars, dust of the Earth, enflamed by the Spirit. Your soul, said David Toolan, S.J., is “the depth probe or antenna through which you listen to the thermal howl, the microbes that swim in your cells…the wildlife with whom you are kin.” Time will be spent, in the “company” of poets, holy ones and scientists to better know ourselves as star shine and Spirit flame so that we might live as fully alive celebrants and healers of Planet Earth, our home.  Full Circle facilitators.

Cycles of Creativity

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

The universe is explosive creative energy. Yet this dynamic, mysterious force has its own “ups and downs,” its cycles of creative birth, stagnation and death. What can we learn from this? What really happens when our creative spirit goes stale or is on strike?  Come and discover a different approach to creativity! John Heidtke is a writer and thinker who frequently combines spirituality with his creative interests.

Looking to the Future: A View of Process Theology

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Process Theology presents a view of God and the world as creative and changing. God, who embraces this constantly evolving world, is the perfect example of this open process. Come, encounter the loving and dynamic God seen through the lens of process theology. Sue Wolfe, who will lead the discussion, has a Masters Degree of Theology from Eastern Baptist Seminary. She has taught in the church and in other contexts for many years.

The World As God’s Body

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Sallie McFague, theologian and author, offers this metaphor as an image of God’s relationship to the world in contrast to the monarchical model ofGod as King. Explore this conscious-altering paradigm in the context of Christian tradition and scripture. Facilitator Dorothy Ritter is a grandmother, a seeker of love, truth, beauty, justice, peace and reconciliation, and a pilgrim working toward a Master of Divinity. She invites us to a conversation about our experiences of seeing, hearing and feeling God’s presence in the world today.

Say Hello Before Saying Good-Bye

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

We long to be connected with the vastness of the universe. In order to embrace the grandeur, we break it down in a process that becomes the “knowing.” Reflecting on our life story is one way to enter the “knowing,” and see our own goodness and strengths. This awareness eases the fear of letting go, of saying good-by, while it helps prepare us for the continuing unfolding of life. Or put simply in the voice of Finn Wilson age 6, “Nene, Nene come quick a daylily is blooming.” Rene Wilson has experience with grief counseling, directing retreats, pastoral care, ritual and the facilitation of significant life events.
