WHAT IS THE PORT HURON PEACE PROJECT:
A Guernica-sized original mural (11.5’ x 26.5’) Mural images provided by you and others like you; submissions should be single image pictures or simple graphics (see Picasso’s samples at left and above—) that convey how war has impacted you, your family or community OR your vision for peace in the world. You may also create an image or share a word or short phrase that describes your feelings about either (war/peace).

Bob Weir, Author and speaker, will be presenting “How Could So Many Murder So Many?” on

April 3rd at Unity of Blue Water at 1:00pm.

This has been said to be a “soul-searching journey” that “gripped the audience from start to finish” as he walks you through his tour of the Holocaust Memorial in East Berlin.

Radioactive Waste in the Great Lakes

Kevin Kamps, Nuclear Waste Watchdog from Beyond Nuclear

“Radioactive Waste in the Great Lakes
Transport, Trafficking, Deep Burial – Spreading our Radioactive Footprint”

Free and open to the public

Mr. Kamps will address concerns regarding:
• The proposed transport of radioactive steam generators through the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.
• The proposed deep underground radioactive dump, for much of the waste from 20 Ontario reactors, beneath Lake Huron’s shores near Kincardine, Ontario. The draft EIS is due out this March, with a 6 month comment period, followed by hearings.
• The current situation for U.S radioactive reactor waste.
• Address briefly the situation in Japan.

Chatfield School Event

The Chatfield School Theater Class and Choir will present the civil rights play, “We Are the Dream: The Legacy of Martin Luther King Junior,” Thursday, March 17 at 7pm at The Pix Theater.

Info about the play:
We Are the Dream chronicles the life of Martin Luther King Junior as he leads the civil rights movement during the turbulent 20th Century. Included in the play are the stories of Rosa Parks, Vivian Jones, and other courageous leaders of the non-violent civil rights movement. This play is appropriate for kids and adults.
The Chatfield School is proud to sponsor this event and to partner with the Blue Water Season for Non-Violence.

Sandy Quintano will speak at The Unitarian Fellowship of Sarnia and Port Huron, presenting her experience of serving on the Michigan Peace Team in the West Bank,& the Holy Land for 6 weeks this last fall. The power point will include experiences of serving as “unarmed bodyguards,” to accompany Palestinians to safely harvest their olive crops, face-to-face with soldiers, attending nonviolent demonstrations against the separation wall & resulting tear gas retaliation from Israeli army, & general support to 2nd class citizens living in the Occupied territory as well as Israel proper.

Thur, Feb 24th	SALT OF THE EARTH	Demonstrates the true value of the term “solidarity” in the persons of a Mexican American mining community in the southwest. A long and difficult strike stresses and unites. Made with a non-professional cast—and labeled the only U.S. blacklisted film of the McCarthy [no relation] Era.
Thur, Mar 3rd	V DAY UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS	Challenging film about the ingrained nature of violence against women, and personal courageous testimonies, from many cultures, of women working to stop it. Uses explicit sexual language in making its message.

Thur, Mar 17th	DR. STRANGELOVE	Stanley Kubrick’s classic feature film portraying the insanity of a nuclear arms race bent on cold war power at all costs—poignant ironic humor at its best, as the earth hangs in the balance while the human foibles of super-strategists burst forth.
Thur, Mar 24th	SEVEN DAYS IN MAY	A complement to the above. Born of the cold war– points out the lengths to which a military, convinced that it is the prime directive, can go. A plot to assassinate the U.S. president is hatched, and a lone protagonist works to thwart it from within. President Kennedy had read the book, and was certainly concerned. History and art can reflect each other, through a glass darkly.
